You could try growing swedes – they are a sweet winter root vegetable. They taste delicious when diced and roasted with a drizzle of honey!

Should have said – any combo of tinned beans/peas/sweetcorn/pulses/lentils/etc. etc. work really well in this dish.

So … tonight I had stuffed marrow!

Cut the marrow into about 4cm thick pieces and cut out the centres (last year I added the bits to mash potato mmmmm!)

Make a tomato-y thick filling from all of the bits of veg in my fridge and a passata mix (I blend a tin of tomatos, an onion, a big clove of garlic, salt, pepper, herbs)

Put the cut marrow in a baking dish (oil on the bottom) and fill with the mix (try not to get too much sauce in, just the bits)

Cover with foil and cook for 40mins at 180, at 30mins uncover and sprinkle with bread crumbs.

Serve: lots of boiled veg and the rest of the tomato sauce. DELICIOUS 🙂

they can be a bit picky with light too – light but not direct sunlight. And as marty says, well away from a draft …. which is why you need to be careful abotu where you buy them from! Cut flowers and pot plants by the drafty supermarket door anyone?? <<< just dont buy them, they will not last!

I was just about to post about my bumper cucumber harvest, then I saw this thread. I would receommnd keeping them above the ground (so in a pot) this helps with pests and temperature control. They are so much more delicious than the supermarket offerings!!!
