Firstly – hi, new to site! (New to gardening too!!)
I have 3 clematis plants newly bought this year. They were shooting up and had a nice amount of buds on them, some even were opening into beautiful large purple flowers – then all of sudden each plant is gradually starting to wilt & die. It started with one stem on one plant which gradually then became every stem before entire plant was brown and wilted. Then 2nd & 3rd plant have started to show stems that are wilting now. What did I do wrong? Can they be rescued?

    Hi @gemmaehardie
and welcome to the forum – sounds like a fungus to me i’m afraid – the roots may survive though so you may get new growth next year.

I think I have clematis on a trellis? Looks a bit bare on the bottom 3 ft. Plenty of growth higher up. Anyway to encourage some new shoots lower down?
