Hey everyone, just after a bit of advice …. What exactly is mulch??? *hangs head in shame* – this is a safe place to ask though 🙂

    Hey!

Yes – it’s a weird one. If you are asking about ‘bags of mulch’ or ‘wheelbarrows of mulch’ aka biodegradable mulch … it can mean any mix of these:
    *wood chip
    *old straw
    *leaf mould
*DIY compost that hasn’t completely decomposed
    … that kinda thing!

Sometimes people are referring to non-biodegradable mulch (although I wouldnt call it ‘mulch’ as they have quite a different purpose)
    *crushed egg shell
    *tumbled glass
    *gravel/pebbles/slates

    hope that helps!!

it looks really rich and can vary from quite fine to big lumps. if youre buying mulch from anywhere other than in sealed bags in a garden centre then make sure you have seen it first!

It’s well worth exploring the available options. As Gnomation/Marty mention, there are several types of mulch and some may not be suitable for the area you want to lay it.

ummm (abi) … interesting one. Im sure that thhere are people who would argue both sides. Me personally – i mulch:
    1) when im prepping an area (or resting it)
    2) around my big shrubs in the summer to help them retain moisture
